Feasibility Studies and Accurate Cost Prediction

Feasibility studies are a major service area for Robert Skene Consulting Ltd; our engineering background and extensive experience gives us considerable credibility, and a proven record of accurate project cost prediction for both CAPEX and OPEX. We adopt an integrated approach bringing together technical, operational, managerial and financial aspects to identify the optimum solution.

When undertaking a feasibility study we are not afraid to report that a scheme is either impracticable, impractical, or unviable in our view: we consider that our duty to provide robust professional advice to our clients far outweighs any desire to generate further fees from a project. Furthermore we take every effort to predict the total cost of the scheme as realistically as we are able, to avoid sucking the client into a scheme that offers poor value to the client.

When a client is considering a scheme we normally recommend undertaking a, brief, initial feasibility study first, to verify that the scheme is sound, to establish the broad parameters of the project, and to sound out key industry stakeholders. This is to minimise any abortive cost in the event that either a fundamental problem is found, or the project is too costly for the client to afford. We recommend that only once the client is content with the output of the initial feasibility study should a detailed feasibility study and outline scheme design be performed. However, we recognise that clients have a wide variety of internal processes and we are always happy to structure our work to deliver the outputs that these require at the times needed.
